In every house, there’s a well pump supplying you with clean water constantly. Likewise, in every watering system, there’s the use of a water lifter. You can see them commonly in agricultural fields, where they use it to water the crops.
It uses centrifugal force to push out water from the underground reservoir, directly onto the land or to your homes. But how long can a well pump run continuously is debatable and depends on many factors.

One of the most significant factors to consider when it comes to running your reservoir water pushers non-stop is its type. With type comes different sizes and power that contribute to how long it can hold on. You can typically find them in three different types.
These types are used for shallow water reservoirs and have less power than the others. The wells are usually around 25 feet deep or less.
As these water lifters are usable in shallower wells carrying less water, it means the water runs out faster. So the runtime is also much less than others.
Submersible pumps are the most commonly used industrially and economically. These pipes can suck water from 25 feet underground. So you can use it in both shallow and deep reservoirs. Thus, it indicates that it has more suction power.
Also, its suitability for deep wells makes it possible to hold and supply more water, and that ensures a longer continuous water supply. If the pump has a continuous-duty motor attached, it can deliver water uninterrupted up to 20 minutes at best.
With two variations, these jet pumps are the most powerful ones in the industry. The less powerful type is the same as the submersible type. However, the deep well jet ones are extremely powerful with the highest suction power.
These reservoir drainers have jet units that you can place below water level and lift water from typically 50 feet and up to 100 feet with upgrades. So along with its suction power and a continuous-duty motor attached, it can pour water continuously for as long as possible till the water runs out.
We’ve briefly discussed how reservoir tanks affect the amount of water pushed up. The water system of the tank restricts how long it can run without breaks. The larger the well tank, the more it can hold water. So the more it can supply water continuously. Along with a higher suction powered pump, you can run the machine as long as needed.
However, it is not ideal for a water reservoir drainer to run continuously. Running it non-stop for a long time will cause it to overheat and also shorten its lifespan.
These tanks also have an air compartment in which if water enters, it will clog up the system, and you will have to get a new tank. So it’s better to run the system with constant breaks in between for it to cool off.
Q. Can I use a continuous-duty motor pump for my smaller submersible one?
Answer: It’s not advisable to use them on smaller types as it can cause the machine to wear out quickly.
Q. How many hours does a well pump run a day?
Answer: On average, it can run up to 2 and a half hours.
Q. How long should they run with intervals?
Answer: Ideally, you can run it with a 2 minute on and off-cycle.
Q. Does a well refill itself?
Answer: Yes, when given an appropriate amount of break, they do refill on their own.
Now that you know how long can a well pump run continuously and its effects on the system, be wise and don’t wastewater. Unless you own a heavy-duty motor, it’s simply impractical.
